Weaving is a traditional activity that has been passed down from their ancestors and is representative of their cultural identity. A mochila/shoulder bag/purse or “knapsack” is a handmade bag unique to the woman who weaves it.
Each mochila is hand-made by one woman and each woman has her own signature. 100% cotton.
Each bag has its own character with different colors and patterns.Typical motifs are geometrical figures that represent the natural elements- animals,plants-stars.
The Wayuu method of weaving is a complex form of art done entirely by hand. Their weaving knowledge is passed down from mother to daughter for generations . It takes a female between 30 to 60 days to hand weave a mochila. No two will ever be exactly alike.
Dimensions of the bag are approx 12 inches Height -28 cmtsx 14 inches -37 cmts width. The shoulder strap is approx 3 inches -7 cmts wide and 42 inches -107 cmts long.
